When Shiv Jaikumar, a sophomore at Hoover High School and Eagle Scout with Troop 23, learned about the families staying at Ronald McDonald House Charities of Alabama (RMHCA), he saw an opportunity—not just to build, but to bring joy to families.
Shiv is taking on a project that embodies leadership, service, and heart. His Eagle Scout Project focuses on revitalizing the outdoor playhouse, transforming it into a more vibrant gathering space for families. He plans to build a custom wooden popcorn stand as well, offering a warm, sturdy alternative to the plastic cart currently in use. Through this project, Shiv hopes to spark more joy, create lasting memories, and foster a sense of togetherness for everyone at RMHCA.
“My hand-built popcorn stand would be a great improvement from the plastic cart they use now. Also, the outdoor playhouse is all colored in, and I will be cleaning and repainting it. “
Shiv hopes to complete these upgrades by Summer 2025, and any money left over from his fundraiser, after completing these two projects, will be donated back to RMHCA. Every improvement, every repair, and every pop of popcorn will help create memorable moments for families.
