Ronald McDonald House Charities of Alabama (RMHCA) is proud to spotlight the amazing work of the Alpha Delta Pi (ADPi) Eta Chapter at the University of Alabama, whose members raised $31,124 for RMHCA through their annual Run for Ronald. This is the largest sum the chapter has ever raised from a single philanthropy event!
“We have so many sisters who have personal stories connecting them to Ronald McDonald Houses, so it is really meaningful to see that Eta came together in the past two weeks to make such a difference in the lives of families that use the resources provided by RMHCA,” says Philanthropy Chair Emily Davignon.
The 5K was held on Saturday, October 5 and wound through the University of Alabama campus before concluding at Denny Chimes. ADPi then hosted a post-race awards ceremony at their sorority house.
Leading up to the event, the members of Eta Chapter recruited 226 runners and raised thousands of dollars in donations. They also hosted several smaller fundraisers to support their efforts including a giveback night at Chipotle and a LemonADPi stand on campus.
“The amount we raised still astounds me because I never would have guessed we would double and then triple our fundraising goal,” Davignon says. “I am so proud of all our sisters and their dedication to our philanthropy. I cannot wait to see what else the chapter accomplishes for RMHCA in the future.”
“Everyone here at RMHCA is just so proud of the amazing efforts of ADPi Eta Chapter,” says RMHCA CEO Katherine Estes Billmeier. “Families receive our services free of charge thanks to supporters like ADPi. In fact, this donation will help RMHCA provide 23 families with the comfort and support they desperately need while their child is in the hospital.”
Community fundraisers like Run for Ronald are even more meaningful to participants because they are supporting families from their area who must travel hours to Birmingham for their child’s medical care. RMHCA provided 50 family stays to Tuscaloosa County families in 2018 and another 59 stays to date in 2019.
Ronald McDonald House Charities is the national philanthropy for Alpha Delta Pi. Over the last 12 years, Alabama ADPi has raised $134,802.99 for RMHCA in addition to this most recent success. The chapter has also served dozens of meals and hosted family activities to make the Ronald McDonald House families feel at home. We are so grateful for their continued support of RMHCA.
