The following guest blog was written by a Ronald McDonald House guest. RMHC of Alabama is grateful to Forest for sharing her story. Please be aware that this blog mentions a suicide attempt.
My name is Forest Taylor and I am 17-years-old.
My mom and I recently stayed at the Ronald McDonald House for 5 weeks. I am a suicide attempt survivor, and following my attempt, my care team at Children’s of Alabama referred me to their Partial Hospitalization Program.
During my time at the House, not only was I able to attend this wonderful program that significantly improved my quality of life, I was able to speak to the Student Leadership Council about suicide prevention and awareness.
My mom and I also found community with the families at the Ronald McDonald House and I am so beyond grateful.
If it weren’t for the Ronald McDonald House, I would not have been able to receive the care I needed.
Additionally, I have had a dream of becoming a Child Life Specialist since I was 12-years-old, and being able to spend time with kids experiencing medical hardships and their families has really inspired me to follow that dream. I am so grateful for the Ronald McDonald House and the wonderful staff and volunteers.
We hope that Forest’s courage in sharing her story has inspired you to continue supporting RMHC of Alabama! Whether you make a donation, volunteer your time or follow us on social media, you can help provide even more stays at the Ronald McDonald House.
