For more than a decade, longtime supporters Quint and Lisa Cook have dedicated themselves to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Alabama—first through volunteering on committees, then board service, annual giving and now, through a planned gift. Their commitment has grown over the years, and today, they members of the Marianne Sharbel Legacy Society ensuring RMHCA’s mission continues well into the future through a lasting investment in the House.
“It was important for us to know that that gift will continue to serve not only today, but for the future.” — Quint Cook
Legacy gifts like the Cooks’ are often referred to as “stop-and-think” gifts. Rather than being made from income, they are typically arranged through wills, trusts, or other estate plans. These gifts allow donors to make a lasting difference without affecting their current financial stability.
For the Cooks, the choice to give was shaped by what they’ve witnessed firsthand: RMHCA is more than a place to stay—it’s a refuge for entire families.
“What we love about the Ronald McDonald House is the passion to the mission, the caring for the individuals, not just servicing an ill child but the entire family,” says Quint.
In 2024, RMHCA served 5,011 guests from across Alabama and beyond. The average stay was 8 nights, though some families stayed as long as 186 nights while their child received long-term care. Thanks to donors like the Cooks, these families were never asked to pay for a single night, meal, or moment of support.
“Last year, we served over 5,000 families here—and none of them paid a dime. Not for meals. Not for lodging. Not for support. And it’s not just about a place to stay. It’s a community of care,” adds Lisa.
With Father’s Day approaching, Lisa reflected on what this legacy means to their family.
“With Father’s Day coming up, I think it’s a great tribute, especially to Quint, that he has provided such great guidance and such a great example, not only for our children, but for, other families… You’re creating a legacy while you’re here, and you want that legacy to continue when you’re gone.”
