At Ronald McDonald House Charities of Alabama, we witness the incredible resilience of families with children facing medical challenges. Every parent’s greatest wish is to be by their child’s side, offering love and support through every step of their journey. For Joshua and Evelyn Dukes, that journey led them to Birmingham, where their son Isaiah was undergoing an intensive therapy program.
Being away from home for weeks at a time was never part of their plan, but finding a place where they could rest, recharge, and connect with others made all the difference. The Ronald McDonald House became more than a place to stay—it became a source of strength during one of the most challenging times of their lives.
Here is their story, in their own words.
A Message from Isaiah’s Parents
Our son, Isaiah Dukes, was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy just before his second birthday. Despite many scans and tests, doctors haven’t been able to determine the cause. However, CP has not slowed him down! Isaiah remains a happy, loving boy who fills our lives with joy. Every day, he works harder than most for the things that come easily to others, and his progress is nothing short of amazing.
Our family traveled from Montgomery to Birmingham to stay at the Ronald McDonald House for three weeks while Isaiah participated in an intensive physical therapy program. During this hectic time, the House provided us with a comforting, supportive environment. The comfortable rooms, delicious meals each evening, and the incredible staff and volunteers made a world of difference, giving us the strength to face each day.
From small moments like Isaiah picking a toy from the store each week to the connections we made with other families, Ronald McDonald House became a vital part of our journey. It lifted our spirits and provided the encouragement we needed to keep going.
We are deeply grateful to the donors and volunteers who make this mission possible. Your kindness has had a profound impact on our lives, and we can’t thank you enough.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Joshua and Evelyn Dukes
