Every three weeks, sisters Sophia and Julia Green travel to Birmingham for blood transfusions to manage Thalassemia, a rare blood disorder. For many families, this ongoing routine could feel overwhelming, but thanks to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Alabama (RMHCA), the Greens don’t have to face it alone.
When the Greens arrive in Birmingham, they know they have more than just a place to stay. They have a home filled with comfort, support, and community. “The House makes everything easier,” their family shared. Having a safe, welcoming space just minutes from the hospital means they can focus on what truly matters: Sophia and Julia’s health and well-being.
It’s more than just a room for the night. It’s a community.” — Elizabeth Green
At RMHCA, families like the Greens find more than a room. They enjoy warm meals, a space to relax, and the chance to connect with other families who understand their journey. These small but meaningful comforts help them cope with the challenges of ongoing medical care and remind them that they are never alone in this fight.
